Events for the International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia
May 17 is the International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), drawing attention to the violence and discrimination against queer people that still occurs on a daily basis. The day was established in 2004 to draw attention to the violence and discrimination faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and other queer people of various sexual orientations, gender identities or expressions and gender characteristics. The Progress Pride Flag was raised for the first time at TU Dresden on May 17, 2022, and the university is committed to continually observing the day with various awareness and empowerment talks and workshops.

Workshop: "Self-Assertion & Empowerment for Trans, Inter, Non-Binary and Agender Individuals at TU Dresden"
on May 17, 2023, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm (in spoken German)
Trans, inter, non-binary and agender individuals encounter violence every day.
• Are you regularly addressed with the wrong pronoun or your deadname?
• Do you receive derogatory looks in public?
• Have you had to undergo involuntary medical treatments or procedures?
• Do you have trouble knowing which toilet/changing room you can or should use without feeling uncomfortable?
• Is there a name or gender on your ID that does not reflect who you are?
• Do people cross your personal boundaries because your body does not conform to a social norm?
These and other experiences can evoke strong feelings of powerlessness. The effects of these experiences can also manifest themselves in very different ways. In the face of these social power relations, trans, inter, non-binary and agender people often develop personal and creative coping and survival strategies.
Our workshop is a space in which you are welcome just as you are. The main focus will be on you and your boundaries.
You will have the opportunity to find out how it feels when your boundaries are threatened and what you can do to reinforce them. Together, we will look for strategies to recognize, set and defend boundaries in everyday life. You will learn that there are tools that you can always carry with you, including breathing, speaking up, taking a secure stance, assuming good posture and maintaining eye contact. With the help of role-playing and simple physical techniques, we want to counteract powerlessness and take action together. You can exchange experiences and feelings or simply listen to each other.
Every body is different. Every person has their own experiences and can draw on very
different resources for self-assertion. All of them are legitimate and valuable. It is important for us that you always decide what suits you and what does not. All exercises and role playing scenarios are voluntary. We want to create a common space that gives us courage - each person individually and us together as a group.
If the workshop appeals to you but you are unsure whether it is suitable for you, please send us an email. Also write to us with any special questions or wishes. We look forward to meeting you!

Queer Science Lecture Panel
A different colloqium for IDAHOBIT
on May 17, 2022, from 2:50 pm // hybrid (address will be announced after registration)
The goal of IDAHOBIT is to create queer visibility, including in and through science. Therefore, we asked ourselves: What research on queer issues actually exists at our university?
In a series of short presentations, students and researchers from our university will present their research on queer topics. This includes queer health, the history of queerness, queer theory, queer art, queering, queerness in AI, and all research by and for queer people.
Queer research has incredibly broad potential and can be a part of any discipline.
Everyone should be encouraged to present their latest queer-specific seminar paper, internship or PhD thesis in an enjoyable setting and receive feedback from a variety of perspectives.
We would like to make our events as accessible as possible. Please give us feedback if you have additional needs.

Queer Parenthood - Interdisciplinary Event Series at TUD
Start: May 15, 2023
Queer topics are still marginalized in the medical curriculum. As a result, doctors often have insufficient knowledge about queer people and their living situations. Fear of contact, misconceptions and generalizations of many clients may have an impact on clinical practice. This series of events seeks to break this cycle. It is dedicated to the topic of queer parenthood in order to promote queer health and to break away from heteronormative family images. In addition to DIY workshops, there will be book and film screenings that will not only empower queer people, but also empower and network multipliers.
