Campus
Table of contents
You want to know where exactly you will be studying or where you can spend your free periods?
Then it's worth taking a look at the campus. This is the place in Dresden where the university buildings are located. These are of course not only buildings with lecture halls or seminar rooms, but also buildings with offices for teaching and administrative staff or research facilities.
Main campus
The main campus is located in the Südvorstadt district, which lies to the south of the city center and stretches along Zellescher Weg. There is also a campus in the Johannstadt district away from the main campus, where medical students can be found, and a campus in Tharandt with the Department of Forest Sciences.
Canteens
However, you will not only find teaching and research on campus, but also (and much more importantly) the canteens. A canteen is nothing more than a large cafeteria offering a variety of dishes where you can eat with your friends after or between university events. The offer consists of
The menu usually consists of at least one vegetarian meal, one vegan meal and one meat dish. The choice on the main campus is very large, you can choose between the Zeltschlösschen-Mensa, the Alte Mensa, the U-Boot, the Siedepunkt and the Mensa Matrix.
Food in the canteen is discounted for students, which means they only pay a small amount. You can pay with your student ID, i.e. your Campuscard. You can load money or credit onto it at special machines, such as in the Alte Mensa, or directly at the checkout when paying. There are also cafés where you can get coffee specialties and sweets for your coffee break, relaxed working or studying together.
Saxon State and University Library
But of course we can't keep one of the most important things on campus from you: the SLUB. The Saxon State and University Library is home to countless amounts of specialist literature from all departments, so much so that it has several branches scattered around campus.
But first to the SLUB itself: this huge library is located on Zellescher Weg. There you will not only find books, but also many workstations that you can use to study, revise lectures or write term papers. There are different areas, e.g. the reading room, where it is very quiet and everyone is concentrating on their work. But there is also an area where you can exchange ideas and do group work, for example. Whether at a small, individual and hidden table or at one of the large tables, all the places are very popular and sought after, especially during the exam phase. It's worth switching to branches such as the DrePunct or the law branch.
You can find out more about the SLUB on the page...
