ZIH’s services and research activities are shouldered by seven departments, which represent its core competencies and areas of responsibility.

From user support to central servers and services
The structure of ZIH enables provision of infrastructure and services to the University that is efficient and service-oriented. From data communication and information processing, to a competent user-support and from the organization and coordination of it’s own research to development activities. The director of ZIH, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang E. Nagel, holds the Professorship in "Computer Architecture" at the faculty of computer science of the Technische Universität Dresden.
The Service Desk of the ZIH is the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for all employees, students and guests of TU Dresden regarding all IT-services offered by the ZIH.
Administrative tasks are covered by a management team.
Represented by the ZIH, the TU Dresden is a founding member of the Gauss Alliance. This association of national science centers promotes "High Performance Computing" (HPC) at a national level as an independent strategic research activity.
The NHR alliance bundles the resources and expertise of university high-performance computing and makes them available to scientists at German universities free of charge. Support is also provided in particular by providing advice and training. Within the national network, these services are thematically diversified and can be used on a supra-regional basis.
