Research-orientated learning and teaching
As part of the Excellence Strategy "TUD 2028 – Synergy and beyond," the Center for Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching (ZiLL) is responsible for three programs that promote research-oriented learning and teaching, all of which are components of the "Research-Oriented Teaching" project in the EXU priority area TALENT.
With these programs, TU Dresden pursues the goal of recruiting and promoting scientific talent at all career levels and of opening up research paths for students at an early stage.
Students and lecturers interested in research can apply for financial support for student research at TU Dresden through the FOSTER program.
Objectives of FOSTER:
- Introducing students to research and academic culture
- Strengthening interdisciplinarity
- Establishing university-wide incentive structures for student research
- Rewarding lecturers' commitment to student research projects
- Attracting excellent young researchers

The Teaching Synergies Program (TSP) systematically integrates (early-career) researchers from the DRESDEN-concept research alliance into research-oriented teaching at TU Dresden. This is accomplished through joint teaching activities of TU Dresden lecturers with researchers from extramural institutions.
The program is aimed at:
- (Early-career) Researchers from DRESDEN-concept who aspire to a career at a university and would like to gain experience and qualifications in university teaching and university didactics.
- Lecturers at TU Dresden who are interested in collaborating with researchers from DRESDEN-concept or who would like to further develop existing collaboration in the context of joint teaching activities.
The goals of the program are:
- To create synergies between TU Dresden and DRESDEN-concept in teaching
- To increase the attractiveness of teaching at TUD by integrating extramural research excellence
Lecturers and (early-career) researchers from DRESDEN-concept receive support and guidance as part of a qualification program. Furthermore, they can receive personalized support during the semester for issues relating to (research-oriented) teaching.
This includes:
- Individual coaching and didactic support in the context of research-oriented teaching
- Individual coaching and didactic support for tandem teaching
- Conducting a teaching analysis poll (TAP) for an interim evaluation of the course
The goal of the Teaching Excellence Tracks (TET) program is to integrate content and processes of excellent research (e.g. from Clusters of Excellence, Collaborative Research Centers, DRESDEN-concept partner institutions, or DFG-funded projects) into existing or newly established degree programs in a targeted manner via elective compulsory modules (research modules, research formats, and science coaching).
Teaching Excellence Tracks have been created to offer students interested in top-level research a research-oriented and interdisciplinary degree program with appealing, internationally compatible methods of teaching and learning. These research-focused tracks integrate (digital) research infrastructures into teaching at TU Dresden.
The program is aimed at:
- Students who aspire to an academic career and are interested in interdisciplinary research.
- Lecturers who offer research-guided courses in order to attract early-career researchers to their fields.
The Teaching Excellence Tracks (TET) are completely new and are currently in the design phase. They will be developed individually and collaboratively; structures and content will be tailored to the needs of the researchers. Concept ideas and suggestions are always welcome. The opportunities for participation are manifold, ranging from the development and implementation of research-guided, teaching and learning methods to the development of entire research-guided modules; from dedicated committee work to course design for the implementation of the Teaching Excellence Tracks.
Here you receive further information of the Teaching Excellence Tracks.
The programs receive funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Free State of Saxony as part of the Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State Governments.
