At StuFoExpo, students present their research projects on the big stage - either as a pitch and poster or in an exciting science slam. The most convincing contributions will be awarded prize money by the jury and audience. You can also expect an exciting debate on this year's topic of "scientific ethics" in an interdisciplinary panel discussion.

All students who have done research and want to present their project can take part. Be it a thesis, seminar paper or any other research project, regardless of the subject area, whether in the Bachelor's, Master's, diploma or state examination.
The same applies to medical students, who can also submit and present their doctoral theses, as these are often written during their studies.
Students who are exmatriculated as of 01.10.2024 can also participate, provided they were still enrolled in the 2024 summer semester.
Doctoral students are excluded from participation, with the exception that they began their doctoral studies on 01.10.2024 and were still enrolled in their previous degree program in the summer semester 2024.
The number of places is limited. When selecting applications, in addition to the quality of the abstracts, care is taken to ensure that the different Faculties are equally represented. In addition, the contributions will be selected according to the greatest possible variety of topics.
The StuFoExpo 2024 will take place in a language hybrid, as English-language contributions may also be submitted. English contributions will be presented in English and the poster session of the respective students and the audience discussion will also take place in English. For German-language contributions, the event language will be German.
A jury made up of the widest possible range of different specialist areas will select the winners based on defined evaluation criteria. Participants will receive the evaluations and feedback after the event.
The winner of the audience award will be determined after the pitch and poster sessions or the science slam by means of a live vote by the entire audience.
No, you can definitely submit research projects that are not related to the topic of scientific ethics. However, we would be pleased if you could discuss the possible ethical aspects of your work in your application or presentation!
Yes, you too can apply if you can present an interim status of your work by November 7, 2024. Take the opportunity to try out your scientific presentation skills and receive valuable feedback for the further course of your research!
Students who create a poster will receive a form here with tips on how to design it (Poster design). For all other forms of presentation, i.e. pitch and science slam, there will be a workshop exclusively for StuFoExpo participants with the actor and trainer for stage presence Sven Hönig. This will take place at the end of September/beginning of October 2024 (exact date to follow) and is intended to prepare you optimally for the StuFoExpo 2024.
At StuFoExpo 2024, a pitch is a very short presentation of your research project. The pitch should arouse curiosity about the research project so that the audience can talk to you in the second part of the event - the poster session. The pitch should contain the essential content of the research and should last 2 minutes.
You may use a presentation (slides, images, short video clips) for your pitch. Please note that the poster will only be presented after the presentation of the pitches in a separate poster session.
In a science slam, the results of your own research project are presented in an entertaining and creative way. For example, you can use PowerPoint, props or live experiments. At StuFoExpo 2024, the science slam may last 8 minutes. You will then be given 4 minutes to talk to the audience, which you will organize yourself.
We strive to make our event as accessible as possible. You are welcome to contact us in advance (at least 7 weeks) of the event to let us know your specific needs or requirements.
