Center for Teacher Education and Educational Research (German abbreviation: ZLSB)
The ZLSB is a central interdisciplinary unit of TU Dresden, and has approx. 50 employees. It operates across Faculties at TU Dresden in the coordination of teacher education and of continuing education programs for teachers. At the same time, the ZLSB initiates and coordinates research and projects in the field of teacher education as well as in school and educational research.
With its services, the ZLSB supports some 4,000 teacher training students at TU Dresden. This support includes contributing to the design of study and examination regulations, coordinating the practical school studies with a focus on individual subject didactics. The ZLSB also lends support by coordinating the courses in what is known as the additional areas of study, as well as by providing teacher training-related counseling for students, especially with regard to changing subjects or degree programs. The Academic Affairs Office for Teacher Training on the 2nd floor of Seminar Building II at Zellescher Weg 20 serves as the central port of call for all support services. The Examination Office for Teacher Training, responsible for the administration of examinations in the teacher training degree programs, is also part of the Academic Affairs Office for Teacher Training.
As regards research, the ZLSB is responsible, among other things, for the coordination of the TUD-Sylber project (Synergetic Teacher Education within a Framework of Excellence, organized by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research – German abbreviation: BMBF). This project forms part of the Quality Offensive in Teacher Education. Furthermore, the ZLSB supports the qualification of teachers in the Free State of Saxony within the context of scientific training in the second-career teaching program (lateral entry).
