Second-Career Qualification of Teachers (German abbreviation: BQL)
© LEHRERIN SACHSEN - Eine Klasse für sich
TU Dresden supports the qualification of teachers in the Free State of Saxony as part of an in-service academic training program. The focus of this qualification is the acquisition of knowledge, skills and abilities in the subject science and subject didactics of the chosen subject or primary school didactics. The Teacher Qualification Regulations (QualiVO Lehrer) form the legal basis of the training.
Between 2017 and 2024, the ZLSB at TU Dresden successfully trained around 1,000 participants as part of the in-service teacher qualification program (BQL) and prepared them for a career as a teacher. The program was extended until 2031 by the Saxon State Ministry of Culture (SMK) at the end of 2024.
The academic training for teachers in the teaching profession gives interested individuals the opportunity to gain further professional qualifications in the subject areas of primary school didactics as well as in secondary school subjects. These currently include subjects such as mathematics, physics, computer science, German and economics, technology, home economics and social studies (WTH/S). For the winter semester 2026/2027, it will probably be possible to expand academic training to include the subject of Community Studies, Legal Education and Economics (GRW).
The continuing education program "Berufsbegleitende Qualifizierung von Lehrkräften BQL" at TU Dresden combines practical work experience in the teaching profession with an academic qualification phase. It is realized through two training days per week at the university alongside work as a teacher in the school.
The Center for Teacher Education and Educational Research (ZLSB) organizes and coordinates the program activities under the direction of Prof. Dr. Axel Gehrmann and the program coordination of Dr. Peggy Germer in close cooperation with the university management of TU Dresden, the State Ministry of Culture (SMK) and the State Office for Schools and Education (LaSuB).
