Inclusive in Teaching and Counseling
The awareness of universities for diversity has changed. This is to be appreciated positively. However, our own research shows that in the practice of teaching and in the advice and support provided by lecturers, the inclusive concept of the TU Dresden, which was established at the organisational level, is not complied with to the desired extent . It becomes clear that there is a great need to catch up in the area of didactics - especially with regard to the application of a universal design - as well as in the area of consulting. Although the TU Dresden has already taken measures to increase the sensitivity of teachers and consultants, there is still potential for further development in this area.
Objectives
The aim of this project is to find out what knowledge about and understanding of inclusion exists among student advisors. What is the overall attitude of these actors towards the topic of inclusion? What do they know about counseling and support services? What do they understand by barrier-free access and how do they implement it? The aim is to identify the need for action by institutions for further education and counseling in the field of inclusion. This should pave the way - away from reactive and case-related care to a real participation of students with health impairments. In addition, the survey implicitly raises awareness of the topic of inclusion and helps to break down mental barriers.
The target group is initially the student advisors in their dual role as teachers and advisors, with the aim of expanding the target group to include other teachers, study office staff, representatives of the examination boards and experts on the topic of inclusion if the project is extended beyond 2020.
Previous project
In 2015, the Center for Quality Analysis had already taken a look at measures, needs and the satisfaction of students with disabilities across the university in a special evaluation of the TUD student survey data.
