Research and academic education
As a central unit of Technische Universität Dresden, the Botanical Garden is incorporated into research and academic education in diverse ways.
The plants from our collection are objects of different studies from biomechanical to molecular genetic analyses.
The infrastructure of the garden offers ideal conditions for further experimental studies beyond the boundaries of Botany.
Research and academic education
The material of our collection forms the basis for research projects in different areas. The topics reach from nature conservation to phylogeny or the development of innovative materials following the example of nature.
The infrastructure of the garden creates ideal conditions for research projects in different research branches – not restricted only to Biology. Examples for this kind of research are studies on occupational safety and health or material testing under tropical conditions. Moreover, the Botanical Garden conducts different activities for the conservation of biodiversity. The cultivation of endangered species is also monitored scientifically.
Besides research, academic education is one of the main responsibilities of the university. The plants from our collection serve as material for the qualification of students and junior scientists. Furthermore, project works, theses and internships of university students are regularly supervised in the Botanical Garden.
