Review of the 48th Dresden Hydraulic Engineering Colloquium
The 48th Dresden Hydraulic Engineering Colloquium took place at the end of last week. With over 400 participants, it once again provided an important meeting point for experts from the hydraulic engineering and water management sector. In perfect weather in Dresden, the participants took the opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss current topics. The accompanying trade fair with more than 30 exhibitors provided a practical insight into new products and technologies and a good platform for discussions.

Als Veranstalter kündigt Professor Jürgen Stamm den Keynote-Speaker, Prof. Steffen Marx an.
Presentation of the Hubert Engels Medals
Traditionally, the presentation of the Hubert Engels Medals was one of the first highlights of the colloquium. The award honors outstanding scientific and technical achievements in the field of hydraulic engineering. This year, the medals were awarded to:

Von links: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Stamm (Institutsleiter des Instituts für Wasserbau und Technische Hydromechanik), Dr.-Ing. Ulf Helbig, Asta Maureen Reiter und Dr.-Ing. Rocco Zimmermann.
- Asta Maureen Reiter for her thesis "Analysis of hydromorphodynamic transport processes at coastal protection dunes along the southwestern Baltic Sea using the example of the storm surge of 20.10.2023"

Von links: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Stamm (Institutsleiter des Instituts für Wasserbau und Technische Hydromechanik), Dr.-Ing. Ulf Helbig, Hannes Barczynski und Dr.-Ing. Rocco Zimmermann.
- Hannes Barczynski for his thesis "On the calculation of hydraulic losses at pipe bifurcations."

Von links: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Stamm (Institutsleiter des Instituts für Wasserbau und Technische Hydromechanik), Dr.-Ing. Ulf Helbig, Dr.-Ing. Frank Krüger und Dr.-Ing. Rocco Zimmermann.
- Dr.-Ing. Frank Krüger for his outstanding achievements in hydraulic engineering and technical hydromechanics.
Keynote with Prof. Steffen Marx

Keynote-Speaker Prof. Dr.-Ing. Steffen Marx zum Einsturz der Dresdner Carolabrücke.
The keynote speech by Prof. Steffen Mar x on the collapse of the Dresden Carola Bridge attracted a great deal of interest. He went into detail about the causes of the incident as well as lessons for the future of infrastructure planning.
Laboratory tour and outlook
Another item on the program on the eve of the two-day colloquium was the laboratory tour in the hydraulic engineering hall at TU Dresden, which offered insights into current research projects at the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering. Those interested can make a note of June 20 for a public laboratory tour, which will take place as part of the Dresden Science Night.
The 49th Dresden Hydraulic Engineering Colloquium is expected to take place on March 12 and 13, 2026 under the theme "Future of Hydraulic Engineering Infrastructure".
