Co-operations
With its faculties, the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering has a close-knit global network. This includes numerous collaborations between individual professors, Institutes and Departments. There are also overarching university partnerships with links to several faculties in the department.
The TUD's international partners portal provides an overview of existing international cooperations.
The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering maintains a strategic partnership with the United Nations University Institute for Integrated Material Flow and Resource Management (UNU-FLORES) in the city of Dresden to jointly engage in teaching (especially at the doctoral level) and research, as well as to work with civil society in Saxony to find regional solutions to global challenges.
In addition, there are joint efforts to enable effective transfer across the science-policy interface, benefiting directly from links to the United Nations system and an active global network in general. This includes the joint organization of official side events at the most important multilateral conferences of the United Nations and its international conventions, but also local activities such as the annual celebration of UN Day in Dresden together with the city administration and active stakeholders in the sense of sustainable development of civil society in Saxony.
The Dresden Nexus Conference (DNC) is one of many international conferences that underline the global partnership work of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The focus is on the discussion of current research and practical examples that contribute to the further development of a Nexus perspective in dealing with natural resources. Since its foundation in 2015, the DNC has been a meeting place for researchers from all over the world, as well as international experts from UN organizations and from politics, administration, business and civil society from the local to the global level. The DNC aims to bridge the gap between research and practical application by encouraging a lively exchange between all participants.
TUD, and in particular the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has an important long-standing cooperation with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), Chennai, India.
The Global Water and Climate Adaptation Centre (ABCD-Centre), founded in 2021 with partners from IIT Madras and others, focuses on climate adaptation measures and water security worldwide.
Recently, the existing partnership was expanded specifically with the newly founded School of Sustainability at IITM. Its goal is to become a leading Institute for sustainability teaching and research in the Global South.
