With its faculties, the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering has a close-knit global network. This includes numerous collaborations between individual professors, Institutes and Departments. There are also overarching university partnerships with links to several faculties in the department.
The TUD's international partners portal provides an overview of existing international cooperations.
The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering maintains a strategic partnership with the United Nations University Institute for Integrated Material Flow and Resource Management (UNU-FLORES) in the city of Dresden to jointly engage in teaching (especially at the doctoral level) and research, as well as to work with civil society in Saxony to find regional solutions to global challenges.
In addition, there are joint efforts to enable effective transfer across the science-policy interface, benefiting directly from links to the United Nations system and an active global network in general. This includes the joint organization of official side events at the most important multilateral conferences of the United Nations and its international conventions, but also local activities such as the annual celebration of UN Day in Dresden together with the city administration and active stakeholders in the sense of sustainable development of civil society in Saxony.
The next UN Day will take place on October 24, 2025.
The Dresden Nexus Conference (DNC) is one of many international conferences that underline the global partnership work of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The focus is on the discussion of current research and practical examples that contribute to the further development of a Nexus perspective in dealing with natural resources. Since its foundation in 2015, the DNC has been a meeting place for researchers from all over the world, as well as international experts from UN organizations and from politics, administration, business and civil society from the local to the global level. The DNC aims to bridge the gap between research and practical application by encouraging a lively exchange between all participants.

TUD, and in particular the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has an important long-standing cooperation with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), one of India's leading universities.
The Global Water and Climate Adaptation Centre (ABCD-Centre), founded in 2021 with partners at IIT Madras and others, focuses on climate adaptation measures and water security worldwide.
TU Dresden and IIT Madras recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a transCampus partnership. The agreement creates a framework to promote interdisciplinary research, joint faculty, doctoral students and research groups as well as dual degree programs in the fields of sustainability and transport sciences, among others.
In addition, TUD and the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering have expanded the existing partnership specifically with the School of Sustainability at IITM, which was founded in 2023. Its goal is to become a leading Institute for sustainability teaching and research in the Global South.
