The research areas of the institute cover a broad spectrum of classical and modern limnological topics, starting from the limnology of streams, rivers, reservoirs and lakes up to persistence and distribution of antiobiotic resistance genes in the environment or the influence of climate change and of micro-pollutants on drinking water resources.

Teaching and Research

The institute of hydrobiology is responsible for the field of aquatic ecology within the department of hydrosciences. Main topics are a.o.

  • biodiversity
  • ecology and evolution of aquatic organisms
  • effects of anthropogenic stressors
  • interrelationships between organisms and ecosystem services and functions.

Our research activities of the professorships are cross-linked to each other, within the Department of Hydro Sciences and the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, as well as to other departments. Futhermore, the professorships have cooperations with partners in Germany, Europe and the World.
