Master of Science Hydrobiology
Hydrobiology investigates organisms living in bodies of water and the interactions between organisms and their environment. Together with experts from other disciplines, we are researching on an ecologically sensible and sustainable way to bring water management and aquatic ecosystem functions together.
The study content is closely linked to current research topics at our institute and those of our cooperation partners. Some of the courses are held in cooperation of professorships at TU Dresden and the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research (UFZ). Some modules take place directly at the UFZ.
Aim of the master program is a profound understanding of structure and functions of aquatic ecosystems. During the studies you will acquire skills in research methods in the laboratory and in the field. You will learn to evaluate, model and understand data for research and planning tasks on the computer showcase.
The master program includes, among other things, courses in molecular biology/ evolution with a focus on aquatic microorganisms, ecotoxicological methods for risk assessment of environmental chemicals, ecological statistics and modeling, determination courses for the most freshwater organism groups and methods of water assessment.
