Preparation for study
In order to prepare well for your studies, a comprehensive offer is provided.
Student counseling
For general questions about studying (study choice, prerequisites, admission, organization, ...) the ServiceCenterStudies as well as the Central Student Information and Counselling Service is the right place to go.
If you have specific questions about studying in the field of hydro-science, please contact the study consultant Ms Dr. Christina Görner.
Also the Council of Hydro sciences advises students on all matters relating to their studies.
Preparatory Courses and Bridge Courses
In preparation for the studies, there are several offers for prospective students to refresh their school knowledge.
- The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences organises bridge courses in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. The courses take place every year at the end of September / beginning of October. Participation is free of charge.
It focuses on repeating and deepening those parts of the syllabus that are expected to be available to first-year students. - In addition to the bridge courses, TU Dresden offers the most important contents of the subjects Mathematics and Physics in the compact and interactive format of . online preparatory courses. These include a wide range of exercises and are available free of charge via the OPAL Learning Platform of the Saxon universities. Access is provided by the ZIH-Login, which all students receive upon enrollment.
- The Preparatory Course for Engineering introduces its participants to the way of thinking employed in engineering and to problem-solving strategies. It also prepares them for studying at a university, which is different from school learning. Moreover, the preparatory course allows participants to meet fellow students before the actual start of their first semester. Participation is subject to a charge
Schedules
You will find out about the schedule and the division into the seminar groups before the beginning of the semester on our pages under "Schedules".
Please register for all modules you would like to take this semester in the corresponding course on OPAL. This will provide you with all the necessary and up-to-date information on the course schedule and delivery.

The Academic Calender of the TU Dresden also provides information on lecture times, i.e. on start and end date of the teaching period, as well as information about the start and the end of the core exam time, lecture-free periods and public holidays.
Study Documents
There are approved study documents for each degree program, which include the respective examination and study regulations of the degree program. Familiarize yourself with the study documents for your study program! You can find them in the Official Notices of the TU Dresden and on the pages of the Department of Hydro Sciences under "Study documents".
First semester introductory events
To have a smooth start at the university, the faculties and disciplines, as well as the Student Councils organise varied first-semester introduction events. These take place before the start of the lecture period.
The central ceremonial enrolment of the TU Dresden takes place on 10 October, 3:00 to 4:30 pm.
The enrollment ceremonies of the Department of Hydro Sciences take place on Thursday, 10.10.2024, in the lecture hall CHE/089 (Chemie-Neubau) at 09 a.m. for Bachelor freshmen and 11 a.m. for Master freshmen.
Also the Student' Council of Hydro Sciences is also offers a variety Fresh Man Events. You can find the freshman events of last year's Orientation Week here. This year the events will probably take place from October 07th to October 12th. Furthermore, a mentoring programme is offered to make the start of studies easier.
For international undergraduate students, the International Office (AAA) organizes Welcome Meetings of your tutors on 04.10.2024 (13-15:00). You will also find out about the appointment with your admission letter or when enrolling. Furthermore, the International Tutor Programme of the AAA supports international freshmen in German-language study programs at the start of their studies.
