Groups of students have the opportunity to tour a variety of state-of-the-art laboratories at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences.
The laboratory is a combination of a real model railroad layout and original signal boxes, supplemented by additional modules. The training system responds to operator errors and technical malfunctions in a manner that is largely true to the original and in a timely fashion. As a small railroad network, it thus illustrates a wide range of issues (effects of disruptions, propagation of delays) and enables practical exercises and demonstrations ranging from scheduled operations to railroad accidents.
Tour and demonstration of the A320 flight simulator, with the opportunity to take a scenic flight over Dresden yourself. This program offers a brief glimpse into career and research opportunities in aviation.
The technical equipment in the laboratory and at the test stands reflects the interdisciplinary nature of the Chair of Traffic and Transportation Psychology and opens up a wide range of research opportunities. This creates a challenging field of work at the intersection of lighting technology, visual physiology, optical perception, traffic behavior, and traffic safety. This combination of engineering and psychology gives the laboratory its unique character.

Control Center Laboratory: The VAMOS control center includes a comprehensive back-end system consisting of several networked servers that operate 24 hours a day. This is also where the City of Dresden’s traffic data center is located, where all online traffic data from the state capital’s urban area and from the highways in Saxony is collected, analyzed, and transferred into a real-time dynamic traffic model (the georeferenced database system VAMOS-DVM).
Train Simulator Laboratory: Laboratory for developing methods to optimize train operations, particularly focusing on energy-efficient driving modes and energy-efficient operational control systems; train simulator consisting of an original BR425 locomotive cab and video projection; comparative studies in the cab of conventional versus computer-assisted driving modes; demonstration of potential savings; practical test bed for driver assistance systems in rail systems

Open House Days
During the open house days, interested visitors can gain a wide range of insights into academic programs and research at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences. Whether through counseling sessions, lectures, lab tours, or demonstrations — numerous interactive and hands-on activities offer the opportunity to learn about degree programs, research projects, and facilities related to the future of mobility.
Every year on a Saturday in May or June, TU Dresden presents its full range of academic programs. Lectures provide detailed information about the degree programs and their content; prospective students can speak with current students and faculty members and receive advice. The "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences offers introductory lectures on the degree programs as well as on various subfields of transportation sciences. During UNITAG, visitors can tour the laboratory facilities.
High school students can spend a day at the university, attend lectures, listen to special presentations, tour various faculty laboratories (e.g., the railway operations lab, the flight simulator, and many more), ask our students questions, and eat in the cafeteria.
Uni Live always takes place on a Thursday in the first half of January.
Every summer, alongside many other research institutions and companies in the city, numerous laboratories and facilities at TU Dresden—including the "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences—open their doors! We warmly welcome you with a diverse program of experiments, demonstrations, lectures, and hands-on activities.
Every year on the first Saturday in November, the Dresden Transportation Museum hosts a Career Day. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., educational institutions and companies in the (transportation) technology sector present their training programs. The faculty will also be there to showcase its degree programs.
For one day, interested high school students can try out science and engineering degree programs. In addition to exciting workshops, there will be hands-on activities where participants can work alongside our scientists on impressive experiments.
Every spring, the “SCHAU REIN!” program gives students the chance to get a taste of different careers and fields of study. In hands-on workshops, students in 7th grade and above can learn about transportation studies and discover how the faculty contributes to the sustainable development of transportation and infrastructure systems.
The TU Dresden Summer University offers prospective students interested in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology(STEM) a week-long opportunity to experience student life. During this time, they gain insights into academic programs, research, and careers in STEM departments at Dresden’s science hub.
Year-Round Programs
For parents, teachers, mentors, and you! There’s plenty to discover on our information and orientation platforms JuniorCampus (grades 1–8) and Uni testen (grade 8 and up). A wide variety of events are offered to students year-round, giving them a glimpse of what it’s like to study at TUD long before they begin their degree programs.
Expedition Campus is primarily aimed at students in grades 9 through 12 or 13 and is designed to support career orientation. This allows students to get a taste of campus life and learn about the university’s academic programs.
Through the Student University program, high school students can enroll as early students at TU Dresden , attend lectures from their future degree programs, and take exams ahead of schedule.
Internships and Research Projects
Students in grades 9 and 10 can work on their own transportation-related project during a school internship at the faculty and learn about how a university operates.
Our researchers are also happy to support and mentor students in special or complex learning projects (BELL, KOLL) or to collaborate with students to develop ideas for science competitions such as “Jugend forscht.”
