Call for Abstract Dresden Nexus Conference until October 15 2019: "Circular Economy in a Sustainable Society"
The Dresden Nexus Conference is an international conference series dedicated to advancing research on and the implementation of a Nexus Approach to environmental resource management and to fostering dialogue on how nexus thinking contributes to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is organised by the United Nations University (UNU-FLORES), the Technische Universität Dresden (TU Dresden), and the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER).
The Dresden Nexus Conference 2020 (DNC2020) will take place 3–5 June 2020 under the theme “Circular Economy in a Sustainable Society”. The vision of a circular economy directs attention to the importance of waste utilisation and minimisation. It focuses on achieving a long life, aoptimal use, refurbishment, remanufacturing, and recycling of products and materials. The Nexus Approach aims to maximise synergies, minimise trade-offs, and improve resource use efficiency. Choosing this theme, DNC2020 aims to promote the resource perspective of waste in a circular economy and to emphasise the Water-Soil-Waste Nexus. Land should be used effectively, and urban brownfields should be reused, not devastated (as, for example, in mining areas). Waste should be minimised during production and processing, as well as during and at the end of consumption of goods. Waste should become a secondary raw material for similar or other processes. Hazardous wastes need to be disposed of safely. Thus, it is apparent that the Nexus Approach to environmental resource management supports the circular economy concept.
The sessions of the conference will touch on technology and management, business and economy, and policy, science, and society. Contributions submitted to DNC2020 should be assigned to one of the sessions listed under 'session topics'. To cross-fertilise ideas and insights from technical, economic, and policy perspectives, the organisers envision combining and pairing incoming contributions in broader sessions.
We welcome oral and poster presentations. Oral presentations, by default, will have a duration of 15 minutes; specific arrangements may hold for single sessions – as we encourage conveners to use interactive formats – and will be communicated by the session convener after the acceptance of oral contributions. We will reserve time for poster presentations and organise a poster competition.
Based on the evaluation of submitted abstracts, we will invite selected contributions to submit full papers to be included in a post-conference publication (special issue of a journal). Please indicate in the abstract submission form whether you would be interested in this option.
