Alexander Karmann is professor emer. of economics, honorary board member and founding director of GÖZ/Center for Health Economics, TU Dresden, research professor at ifo Dresden and also Profesor Invitado (Categoria Docente Especial), Universidad de la Habana. Before, he was Senior Professor and heading the 1993 established Chair in Monetary Economics at TU Dresden, he served as dean of faculty (5 yrs) and as board member of the economic faculties association WiSoFT (8 yrs). He held positions as professor in Economics at University of Hamburg and as lecturer (Privatdozent) at University of Karlsruhe (KIT). He denied a call of the University of the Allied Forces, Munich. He was visiting professor at several universities (University of Tokyo, Ohio State University, USI Lugano, University of Urbino, University of Havanna) and was rewarded with the "Sello CUJAE" of TU Havanna. He holds academic degrees in Mathematics (diploma University of Erlangen), Musics (concert pianist, Konservatorium Nürnberg) and Economics (Dr. rer. pol. and Habilitation (Econometrics & Statistics), KIT). He wrote several books and published in international journals, e.g. Mathematical Economics, Regional Sciences & Urban Economimcs, Journal of Banking & Finance, Review of International Economics, Review of Development Economics, Journal of Economics, Journal of International and Theoretical Economics, as well as Health Economics, European Journal of Health Economics, International Journal of Health Economics and Management.
About 20 research assistents were supervised by Prof. Karmann, who accompanied 16 doctorates and 3 habilitations as first reviewer. He also supervised around 200 diploma, bachelor's and master's theses.
