Is Bautzen-Budyšin primarily a city up in arms, or is it united in its causes? According to the Bertelsmann Stiftung foundation, “Social cohesion does not come about on its own and it cannot be enforced, but there is action we can take to bring us on the right path. It requires stable and trusting relations between different people, groups and organizations.” This was the focus of several keynote speeches and joint workshops at the open symposium, to which initiatives, clubs and residents of the City of Bautzen-Budyšin were warmly invited.
The morning session centered on best practice examples of citizen participation and negotiation processes as well as fascinating changes of perspective. In the afternoon, several initiators from Bautzen led workshops about local and sustainable cohabitation, memorial sites and meeting points. These workshops offered plenty of space for new, creative ideas about living together.
TU Dresden’s “Society in Dialogue” project seeks to share such experiences and use in-depth discussions to generate new synergies between initiatives, clubs and residents of Bautzen-Budyšin. The final discussion was led under the title “What can we achieve now together?”
