TeichLausitz – Safeguarding Biodiversity through Sustainable Farming in Lusatia’s Wetlands
In Lusatia, carp have been raised in ponds specially created for them for over 750 years. These ponds are the habitat of many species and serve various ecosystem functions. Changing conditions are endangering the economic efficiency of fisheries, which leads to aquaculture in these ponds.
The TeichLausitz project follows an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach to research options for maintaining these ecologically valuable cultivated landscapes in Brandenburg and Saxony. It comparatively analyzes governance structures and political instruments, records and compares the biodiversity and ecosystem functions of ponds in the context of cultivation measures, and assesses the profitability of operations depending on political measures. A multi-stakeholder platform provides the basis for critically considering and developing project methods.
