Requirements
In order to become a member of the GA as an Academic Supervisor, at least one of your doctoral candidates has to be a member of the Graduate Academy.
You have to hold one of the following positions:
- University professors of the TU Dresden, including Junior Professors
- Habilitation-equivalent qualified scientist, for example, private lecturer, extraordinary Professor, or Deputy/Interim Professor of TU Dresden, if you are an authorized reviewer for a doctoral thesis at your faculty
- TUD Young Investigator
Online registration or further documents are not necessary.
The membership will be offered to you after one of your doctoral candidates has been confirmed as a member of the Graduate Academy. Upon receiving our offer, you need to declare your statement of consent via email to the GA.
Subsequently, we will confirm your membership as an academic supervisor at the Graduate Academy.
FAQs
The membership is offered only after one of your doctoral candidates has been formally accepted. However, please note that the confirmation of your membership might take some time depending on the number of incoming requests. We kindly ask you to be patient in receiving our membership offer.
No, but you may want to become a Young Investigator at a faculty of TU Dresden. As a Young Investigator, you can become a member as academic supervisor at the Graduate Academy. More information can be found here: Young Investigator Program.
No, the doctoral candidate is responsible to have the supervision agreement signed by her/his officially supervising university professor or Young Investigator at TU Dresden. You as the direct supervisor should of course also sign the supervision agreement.
No, the membership of at least one of your doctoral candidates is a prerequisite for your own membership as an academic supervisor.
No, you cannot. For further information, please refer to the regulations for academic supervisors as stated in paragraph 3 (1c) of the Statute of the Graduate Academy (in German only).
The rules and regulations apply as established in paragraph 5 of the Statute of the Graduate Academy (in German only). Based on the membership, Academic Supervisors are entitled to:
- Receive advice and support for his/her your doctoral candidates including promising doctoral candidates and postdocs
- Receive support and advice to support young researchers or to establish and run a structured graduate program
- Eligible for our funding program: Lab2Lab
You commit to adhere to the Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice at the TU Dresden.
We would also be glad if you would support us by recommending the official registration at the TU Dresden to your current and prospective doctoral candidates as well as suggesting the membership with us.
The membership as an Academic Supervisor ends if you do not have any registered doctoral candidates at the Graduate Academy anymore or if you are leaving TU Dresden.
Yes, anytime. Please submit a written statement of resignation to the Graduate Academy via mail to the GA or email to the GA.
