Panel discussion: #provokation. 1968 und die Inszenierung der „Neuen Rechten“
50 years after the student revolt, the New Right is claiming for itself the gesture of the rebellious citizen shock. With provocative taboo-breaking and the adaptation of pop-cultural forms, the identitarian activists help themselves to the fund of left-wing forms of action. At the same time, forces in the AfD movement and its think tanks are working on a right-wing answer to the social question. The political system of coordinates seems to have shifted since a new cultural line of conflict between "rage citizens and do-gooders", "somewheres and anywheres", "cultural essentialism and hyperculture" has been identified everywhere and fought out as a political opposition between "class and identity politics". But what is the relationship between neoliberalism and the New Right? How does social change alter the forms and content of the political? Does the New Right simply engage in "discourse piracy" or do the forms of discourse themselves prepare fertile ground for right-wing rearticulation? What is the relationship between self-staging and media framing? What does this "aestheticisation" tell us about the state of contemporary society? We would like to discuss these questions and how to deal with the New Right together.
These questions will be addressed in the panel discussion #provokation. 1968 und die Inszenierung der „Neuen Rechten“ with Richard Gebhardt and Thomas Wagner. The event is organised by the Sonderforschungsbereich 1285 "Invektivität. Konstellationen und Dynamiken der Herabsetzung".
