Teaching-learning locations
Since the summer semester of 2022, the BildungsAcker in the Botanical Garden of TU Dresden has served as a learning space for hands-on education for sustainable development (ESD). The associated project seminar is currently aimed at students pursuing general teaching degrees (primarily in geography) and vocational teaching degrees (primarily in nutrition and home economics) and is offered as part of the supplementary studies program (EGS).
Der BildungsAcker im Botanischen Garten der TU Dresden
Taking an inquiry-based, action-oriented approach, the project seminar aims to link students’ own experiences in cultivating a plot of land with theoretically grounded, reflective practices, and to translate the insights gained from the “Bildungsacker” learning site into their own approaches and concepts for integrating ESD into school and other education-related vocational contexts. By participating in the seminar, students become aware of the opportunities that arise from cultivating the farmland for integration into educational contexts. They experience and engage with (higher education) ESD firsthand. The accompanying theory seminar supports students’ reflection on their experiences. The goal is to empower prospective teachers to actively engage with ESD and integrate it into their future educational work.

The agricultural component was initially provided by Acker e.V. Berlin. To date, the course has received financial support from the Society of Friends and Sponsors of TU Dresden (Summer Semester 22 & Winter Semester 22) and the Environment Commission of TU Dresden (Summer Semester 23 & Winter Semester 23).
