Programs for Studying Abroad
There are several options for going abroad and each stay consists of the specific exchange place and the funding for it. In some programmes - such as Erasmus+ - you apply for both simultaneously, in other cases you will have to apply seperately.
Information about the contact persons for studying abroad at your faculty can be found here, an overview over exchange places can be found here.

The bilateral Master is a joint program of the Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies and the Faculty of Philosophy at TU Dresden and the Dipartimento di Lettere e Filosofia at the Università di Trento. It enables the acquisition of two degrees - a Master's degree (Master of Arts) and a Laurea Magistrale. An integral part of the bilateral Master is the obligatory two-semester stay abroad at the University of Trento. This is characterized by the participation in interactive courses as well as practice-oriented language courses and thus enables a comprehensive and profound study in an intercultural environment. A high level of study is also ensured in the double master's program: both universities have already been awarded titles of excellence.

There are a variety of funding opportunities for internships abroad. The LEONARDO office in Saxony is the contact for questions regarding planning, organization, financing and placement. The comprehensive support there is free of charge and includes, among other things, application workshops and intercultural preparation courses.
The following programs are available specifically for school internships abroad:
The LEONARDO Office Saxony supports the organization of internships abroad and the application for ERASMUS+ scholarships in European and non-European countries (see also PROMOS). The internship abroad can be carried out at schools as well as at other institutions, NGOs and business enterprises.
With the Lehramt.International program, the DAAD has been offering attractive scholarships for school internships abroad to prospective teachers of all disciplines and all types of schools since 2019:
- Funding line 1 is aimed at student teachers. Self-organized short internships (30 days to 6 months) at school institutions abroad are funded. Schools of the PASCH network as well as cooperation and partner schools of the ZLSB are available for this purpose. The internship can be a compulsory internship as well as a voluntary internship. With appropriate planning, it is possible to receive credit as a block internship A or B. Students for the teaching degree at elementary schools are especially encouraged to apply.
- Funding line 2 is aimed at graduates of teacher training programs and aims to close the gap between the first phase of training (studies) and the practical phase during the preparatory service with a stay abroad. Funding is provided for internships (mobility and stay) after the first state examination with a duration of at least 3 to a maximum of 12 months.
For advice on applying to the Lehramt.International program, please contact the Student Mobility Coordinator at the ZLSB, Ms. Gesine Seymer.
The Goethe-Institut's scholarship program enables student teachers and young teachers to arrange a supervised school internship abroad. In addition, scholarship holders receive methodological and intercultural training before, during and after the internship abroad. You apply for the scholarship with your own project that you implement during your internship. Further information and examples can be found on the Goethe-Institut website on the Schulwärts! program. You will be supported by the Goethe-Institut during a departure and follow-up seminar in Germany, as well as during a training day in the country of interest.
As a foreign language assistant, you will support German teachers at foreign schools for 6 - 11 months, depending on the country of assignment, and at universities in some target countries. As an authentic role model, you will inspire learners for the German language and for Germany. As an FSA, you will gain valuable insights into the educational system and teaching methods of your host country. This practical phase is thus an intensive linguistic and methodological-didactic training for you as a prospective (foreign language) teacher. Financing: The host country supports the assignment of approx. 12 hours per week with a monthly maintenance grant, which usually covers the living expenses.
On the PAD website you can find more information about application and destination countries as well as testimonials.
There are a variety of funding programs available to provide financial support for your study abroad project. These include:
