Important information for all exam candidates (BA + MA)
Dear students,
The Chair of Modern and Contemporary History has the following regulations for final theses (Bachelor's, Master's and State Examination theses): If you wish to write a thesis with us in Modern and Contemporary History, we expect you to have attended at least one seminar (for Master's, State Examination theses, one main seminar) and at least one colloquium at the Chair. Ideally, all theses should be the result of a course in which you have already dealt with the field of research and relevant sources. Master's and state examination theses must be presented and discussed in the NNG research colloquium. The NNG colloquium must be attended in the semester of submission. State examination theses without prior attendance of NNG courses will no longer be accepted. We will find solutions for university transfer students and foreign students in personal discussions.
Please speak to us in good time during lectures and consultation hours about your plans and our availability so that we can guide you through your examination phase and provide you with realistic planning and specialist advice.
Final oral examinations: Students taking final oral examinations in NNG should also have taken a course at the Chair of NNG. The NNG colloquium must be attended in the semester of the oral examination (and also in the semesters before).
Important note for all exam candidates (LA)
The chosen topic should be based on the core research areas of the LS or the examiners (Empire, WWI, WW II, Weimar Republic, gender history, history of emotions, history of violence).
It is desirable for candidates to attend preparatory courses at the LS. After discussing topics in the consultation hours, a reading list should be prepared for the state examination with
2 monographs,
6 journal articles (including 2 English-language titles)
one source should be submitted in writing four weeks before the examination date.
We have developed the following guidelines for the written examination papers. Please note the corresponding guidelines.
