DSH Intensive Courses for Prospective Students
Table of contents
ATTENTION: Courses starting in October 2024 are full, registration is no longer possible!
Objectives and Content
Since October 2018, intensive courses for refugees have been held at the LSK, since 2023 for all international prospective students. On the one hand, the participants are prepared linguistically for the DSH exam, as passing this exam (with at least a DSH2 result) is a prerequisite for taking up a course of study. The participants' starting level must be at least B1 or higher according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The goal of the 16-week courses is to increase the language proficiency by one level in order to be able to successfully take the DSH exam (or another entry test for university studies, e.g. TestDaF, Telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule) after two courses at the latest (after successfully completing the C1 course). In addition to language preparation, intercultural training (various formats) is offered to sensitize the participants to cultural differences and to their own cultural imprint, and to provide theoretical foundations and knowledge about dealing with other cultures, educational traditions and learning styles. As academic-oriented preparation, the participants acquire interdisciplinary skills in academic work, e.g. academic reading and writing or discussing in an academic context. In the tutorials, the participants make use of the numerous interdisciplinary offers at the TU Dresden such as special lecture series, e.g. within the framework of the Studium Generale, guest lectures, interdisciplinary workshops, etc. They will get to know the processes of studying and how to work in a academic library (SLUB).
Course Format
In the summer semester, three intensive courses are taking palce: one at B2 level, two at C1 level. All groups receive four daily lessons (45 min. each). In addition, there are two units of tutorials twice a week. Furthermore, trips, excursions, theater and cinema visits are undertaken to strengthen social cohesion and to familiarize the participants with the cultural offerings of the city of Dresden as a component of integration.
Requirements
The prerequisites for participating in the courses are a secondary school diploma qualifying for higher education in Germany or a completed or ongoing university education, and a minimum age of 18 years. Linguistically, a proficiency level of at least completed B1 is required (evidenced by a certificate or placement test).
Funding/Financing
This measure is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget passed by the members of the Saxon Parliament and it is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, DAAD) with funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, BMBF).
