Profile
Teaching and research at the Chair of Italian Literatures and Cultural Studies are equally concerned with the literature and culture of Italy in its historical, geographical, political, social and media dimensions.
Teaching aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the history of Italian literature, culture and knowledge from the 14th century to the present day. The focus is also on literary and cultural studies theories and methods, the application of which is tested in the courses. The Chair's diverse collaborations, which extend both within and across faculties as well as internationally, enable students to discuss current research questions and develop an understanding of transcultural phenomena through excursions, guest lectures, exhibitions or film presentations. Great importance is attached to intercultural and interdisciplinary aspects of literature and cultural studies.
Research focuses on the areas of fictionality and intermediality, migration research, gender studies, spatial theory and selected problems such as the interaction between politics and crime. The early modern period and the 20th/21st century form the central historical fields of access.
