Poster Lecture Dr. Laura Linzmeier December 15, 2025
Sailors and traders had extensive networks on land and at sea. It is therefore hardly surprising that the linguistic activities of these communities of practice also transcended maritime and trade-related contexts.
The lecture will shed light on this with regard to Western French maritime stakeholders and their role in the development of North American French.
Dr. Laura Linzmeier will speak as part of the seminar "Langue et société au Québec" by PD Dr. Franz Meier.

Lecture
PD Dr. Benjamin Peter (Kiel): AI and minorization processes using the example of French in the Acadia
Poster presentation by PD Dr. Benjamin Peter on January 26, 2026, TU Dresden
Digital language data collections - the data basis of AI - create the impression that frequent structures represent "the" language per se, whereby minorized varieties are marginalized.
The example of Acadian French makes it clear that specific Acadian features are not simply "corrected" by AI in this context, but that an invisibilization of minority varieties takes place as a result.
PD Dr. Benjamin Peter will speak as part of the seminar "Langue et société au Québec" by PD Dr. Franz Meier.
Guests are welcome.
