In the summer, Learnaxy, a challenge app for personal development, was expanded to include an exciting category: Study. This is a major innovation that, in conjunction with the Flipped-Classroom.eu and Quizaxy platforms, creates an innovative learning environment that revolutionizes traditional studies.

Flipped-Classroom: Lecture videos with curated questions from students

On Flipped-Classroom.eu, students can watch videos of lectures whenever and as often as they like. This approach offers enormous flexibility and allows students to engage intensively and repeatedly with the subject matter. A big advantage: students can ask written questions about specific points in the videos, which are curated and answered by the lecturers so that these answers are available to all (future) course participants. This means that lecturers no longer have to respond individually by email to frequently repeated technical questions. Instead, a comprehensive knowledge archive is created that everyone can access.

The videos and corresponding slides are linked to each other in terms of time. If the content of the slides changes or an error is discovered, the slides can be easily updated and students always have the latest information to hand. In addition to the videos, there is further reading and additional videos and links to materials that deepen understanding, such as Learnaxy learning challenges and Quizaxy quizzes.

Gamification meets studying: Learnaxy and Quizaxy in action

From the winter semester 2024 , interactive elements will be added to the videos on Flipped-Classroom.eu. Thanks to Quizaxy and Learnaxy , students will have the opportunity to acquire, test and deepen their knowledge in a fun way. Quizaxy offers multiplayer quizzes and quiz challenges on selected topics from the course. Those who pass all levels of a challenge earn a medal - a classic element of gamification that not only makes the learning process more exciting, but also more motivating. These medals can be collected, which increases competition and motivation.

The Learnaxy learning challenges go one step further: they consist of collected instructional videos, short summaries and other media. The knowledge from these media is compactly summarized in virtual flashcards that can be learned with the deep mode for long-term memory. Learning and forgetting is a thing of the past! In addition, practical tasks are offered to deepen and implement the theoretical knowledge acquired. Gamification also plays a central role here: there is silver, gemstones and medals to be earned when learning with Deepmode and completing challenges.

A big step towards the digitalization of studying

What particularly distinguishes these platforms is their networking and modularity: the content can be reused, expanded or exchanged every year. Questions that students ask about the videos in the flipped classroom are also incorporated into the quizzes and learning challenges. Furthermore, learning challenges also include Quizaxy quizzes and higher-level quizzes refer to more in-depth learning challenges. This creates a broadly diversified and networked knowledge archive that considerably simplifies and supports self-study.

A particularly exciting prospect: in the medium term, a large part of theoretical studies could take place without live lectures and live exercises. Even complex tasks such as programming or modeling exercises can be covered digitally with tools such as Artemis, which are referred to via the challenges or videos. This could either supplement or even replace traditional classroom teaching. This gives students the opportunity to acquire knowledge independently. In this way, lectures could no longer be used solely to impart knowledge, but above all for exciting discussions and in-depth exploration of the material.

The future of teaching and learning

Self-study has never been as easy, quick and interesting as with the combination of Flipped Classroom, Quizaxy and Learnaxy. These platforms not only offer a flexible and sustainable way of acquiring knowledge, but also increase motivation through playful elements. At the same time, they open up a completely new way of teaching for universities, creating more space for discussion and interaction and optimizing the learning process in the long term. The future of learning has begun - and it is digital, interactive and motivating.
