Until 2015, the SICK Prizes were donated by Dorothea Sick-Thies, the daughter of Dr. Erwin Sick (founder of SICK AG in Waldkirch), to honor outstanding work written at TU Dresden on the subject of environmental protection. Since 2017, the Gisela and Erwin Sick Foundation has donated the prizes. When awarding the SICK sponsorship prizes, particular emphasis is placed on progress for science and the relevance of the research results for practical measurement tasks - preferably in process, factory or logistics automation and in environmental protection.

Mr. Jonathan E. W. Huffmann was awarded the Hans-Pundt-Prize 202021 of the VDE-Dresden for his outstanding diploma thesis "Canonical correlations and the calculation of information measures for infinite-dimensional distributions". This prize honors scientific and at the same time practice-oriented and excellently executed diploma and master theses. The award was presented at the annual general meeting on June 15, 2022.

This year, the prize awarded by the VDE Dresden District Association went to Simon Röschner for his diploma thesis "Requirements-based adaptation of the design of a synchronous reluctance machine without the use of field calculation methods", Ricardo Herrmann for his final thesis "Fault location of high-current fault arcs in LV switchgear" and Clemens Matthias Bilsing for his final thesis "Novel laser measurement system with adaptive image correction using helical wavefronts and a deformable mirror". The prize is awarded as a special honor for scientific and at the same time practice-oriented and excellently executed diploma theses and is endowed with 1,000 EUR.

Theodore Maiman Scholarship
Mr. Jakob Dremel has been awarded the Theodore Maiman Scholarship of the WLT (Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft Lasertechnik e.V.). In 2020, the WLT will award three scholarships to students who are enrolled in a master's or diploma degree program at a university in Germany, have distinguished themselves through special achievements and have focused their current studies on photonic technologies. The special achievements that should distinguish the scholarship holders are a short period of study, outstanding grades and a very good Bachelor's thesis or dissertation in a field of photonic technologies.

TU Dresden "Campus 2020" ideas competition
Students at TU Dresden were asked to develop innovative and future-oriented concepts on the subject of "Access and locking systems". In the end, the concept for "The CampusCard" won over the jury with its innovative solution for a flexible card with printed circuits, solar elements and a touchscreen as a user interface.
The interdisciplinary winning team includes Sandra Klinitzke, Lukas Büschel and Franz Schröder (from the Faculties of Business and Economics and Media Computer Science) as well as Jens Abraham and Stefan Fraedrich from the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

The prize was awarded to Dr.-Ing. Christian Knochenhauer for his outstanding dissertation on "Analog Frontends for Optical Communications up to 80 GBit/s", which he wrote at the Chair of Circuit Design and Network Theory at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
The non-profit Friedrich and Elisabeth Boysen Foundation promotes science and research in the field of environmental technology. In particular, the foundation focuses on engineering work that serves to reduce pollutants, noise and energy consumption. Together with TU Dresden, it therefore honors outstanding dissertations by young scientists at TU Dresden in the field of environmental technology with the sponsorship award.

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research has announced the competition "What makes you healthy?" as part of the Science Year 2011 - Research for our health and awarded prizes to 15 project ideas. The winning teams include students from the EuI faculty at TU Dresden.
