Doctorate and habilitation at the Faculty
The doctorate consists of a separate, independent and original research work that contributes to the knowledge in the respective field. The habilitation is traditionally established within the German academic system as a further academic qualification after the doctorate.
Undertaking a PhD or a habilitation
With the PhD, the applicant demonstrates that s/he is able to work independently on a scientific basis and has a scientific education in the field of electrical engineering and information technology that goes beyond the general goal of studies. The habilitation determines the qualification for research and independent teaching in a scientific subject area. With the successful completion of the habilitation, the applicant is awarded the academic degree of a habilitated PhD of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
