Prof. Roberto Calandra is Professor of Explainable Artificial Intelligence and Head of the “Learning, Adaptive Systems and Robotics (LASR) Lab” at TU Dresden. He and his team aim to improve the capabilities of robots through the use of artificial intelligence (mainly model-based and hierarchical reinforcement learning) to achieve the dexterity of robot hands on a human level. With the help of vision-based tactile sensors, they should be able to feel perceptions such as material type, shape, density, and surface texture and duplicate the strength and spatial resolution of human fingertips.

Prof. Sabine Roller is Professor of Software Methods for Product Virtualization and heads the Institute for Software Methods for Product Virtualization at DLR. This is where the software for more environmentally friendly aircraft is developed and programmed: Digital twins, simulations, and data platforms for the development, certification, maintenance, and operation of airplanes and other systems such as wind turbines or ships. The team accompanies the entire life cycle of an aircraft in a digital and virtual way, enabling testing for possible weak points, planning predictive maintenance, and simulating new propulsion systems.

Prof. Raimund Dachselt is the head of the “Interactive Media Lab Dresden (IMLD)” and Professor of Multimedia Technology. His team's main research focus is natural, multimodal human-computer interaction for multi-display-environments (from smartwatches to large display walls) and in Mixed Reality environments. The IMLD has an international track record of combining different interaction modalities (multitouch, pen, gaze, gestures, tangibles) for modern user interfaces and for developing interactive information and data visualizations beyond desktop computers, applied to numerous application domains.

The Chair of Adaptive Dynamic Systems at the Institute of Computer Engineering is headed by Professor Diana Göhringer. With her team, she researches innovative hardware and software solutions for the realisation of adaptive computer systems. The adaptivity of these computer systems makes it possible to adapt the hardware and software to functional and non-functional requirements at runtime, for example with regard to computing power or energy consumption. This can be done by adapting the number and characteristics of the processors and hardware accelerators. A typical area of application for self-adaptive computer systems is robotics.

Prof. Wolfgang Lehner is the Director of the Institute of Systems Architecture and heading the “Dresden Database Research Group.” In research, his group focuses on the design and implementation of scalable, robust, and energy-efficient database systems for the analysis of large data sets, the design of algorithms and efficient data structures to exploit modern hardware infrastructures as well as principles of query and analysis methods of very large and (semi-)structured document corpora.
