Systems Engineering Lab
While other labs focus on providing encapsulated tasks, the idea of the Systems Engineering lab is to encourage students to actively participate in ongoing research in the Systems Engineering Group.
Finding a topic for a Thesis can be a tedious task that requires students to dig deeper into certain subjects. This lab is meant to help students already diving into a research area or project outside the thesis time frame and enables them to actively participate in the formulation of their Thesis topic. The students will solve tasks in a research project with increasing complexity in order to make them aware of open research challenges. We try to keep topics easier then Thesis Topics and also regularly offer Topics for Bachelor students.
The research areas span data streaming systems, parallel computation, software transactional memory and cloud computing.
In general, we prefer if the student takes the SE-lab for 4 SWS.
Topics
We have a list of possible topics, but you can also check our list of thesis topics, often bigger topics can be adapted to fit the module description.

Registration
The following is always true: Once you have a fixed topic from your supervisor, register for the module AND the exam via SELMA
Special cases
- DSE: See The DSE page for more information
- Diplom-Informatik and Master (Medien-)Informatik: After fixing a topic, you need to register both with SELMA and ONAS to notify the exam office about the examinator ("Prof. Fetzer, Christof" in your case)
Imprortant: These regulations reflect the status of the summer semester 2025 and may change without us being aware of it. Please make sure to check the site of the examination office before you start working on the module
