200 years of future
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
Curiosity and responsibility
New materials, advanced energy systems, sustainable nutrition, tomorrow's networked industries and efficient use of resources - the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering focuses on the challenges of the future in five main areas. Interdisciplinary cooperation and knowledge transfer between science and industry are concentrated in pioneering research laboratories, the labs.. A Dresden team spirit that relies on innovative strength through cooperation.
High-tech for the people
Research and teaching with personality and charisma, fascination for technology and sensitivity for its social weight - the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering shapes international top executives. Since 2012, it has been part of the School of Engineering Sciences and, as the largest faculty, an essential building block in the elite concept of TU Dresden - one of eleven German Universities of Excellence. Its 13 institutes stand for a unique range of disciplines, from classical mechanical engineering to materials science and aerospace. Closely interlinked with the high-performance research of renowned extramural institutes, a lively discourse emerges.
Tradition and innovation
Mechanical Engineering is the founding faculty of Technische Universität Dresden. In response to the technical-industrial revolution, the Dresden Technical College was opened on 1st May 1828 as the nucleus of today's TU. The flourishing mechanical engineering industry needed creative specialists. The engineering sciences established themselves, fuelled by the advancing industrialisation. Recognised researchers and teachers such as Gustav Zeuner (1828-1907) or Richard Mollier (1863-1935) shaped the discipline as a constant search for the best solution. Their legacy lives on in the buildings on campus.
