Joining process for the production of a resource-conserving, durable glued laminated wood from Robinie for load-bearing applications in structural timber construction
Robinia wood surpasses all other wood species native to Germany in terms of its mechanical properties and durability. A construction product made of this material would be suitable even for extreme applications and would open up opportunities for timber construction in areas that are still unthinkable today. The aim of the project is the development of Robinia glulam for the construction industry including the necessary manufacturing processes. These methods include the sorting of the robinia wood as raw material, the surface modification in preparation for the bonding as well as joining processes for the production of robinia wood lamellae and plywood.
The sub-project "Material-specific surface pretreatment for laminar robinia wood adhesive bonding" includes the development of a reproducible pre-treatment process, the mapping of the bonding process under laboratory conditions as well as application-specific investigations of the adhesive bonds.
