Pilot plant for processing of fuel gas from biomass gasification
The pilot plant for processing of fuel gas from biomass gasification consists of two process stages.
The first stage is the reactor for catalytic partial oxidation (POX) which was designed with the objective to remove and transform the content of higher boiling hydrocarbons (tar) in the fuel gas over a thermal conversion process. The chemical base for partial oxidation is the oxidation processes of organic components of gas with atmospheric oxygen. The activation energy that is needed for the start of the desired reactions is lowered by the implementation of a catalytically active component and the operating temperatures of gas cleaning are significantly lower as those without using a catalyst. The facility allows thermal treatment and processing of fuel gas made from various biomasses, depending on the objective defined by the purpose of use under the adjustment of the respectively optimal operation conditions.
Technical parameters (POX)
fixed-bed reactor | |
electrically heated by a heating jacket (750 °C)
gas capacity 35 m³i.N./h
gas extraction (determination of quality) before and after the reactor
investigations on tar reduction (qualitative and quantitative)
investigations on the development of gas quality with regard to heating value |
The second stage of gas processing, implemented as fluidized bed reactor (WSK), serves the cooling of the fuel gas treated in the stage of catalytic partial oxidation, in order to variably realize the gas temperatures required for further fuel gas utilization. The second task of this apparatus is post-purification of the fuel gas. This possibility is there because of the bed material implemented in the fluidized bed, that takes up the function of a heat exchanger, and that can also have a quite cleansing effect regarding its special gas compounds (filter or reactant). Until now, charcoal crushed to the necessary grain size was implemented, which accrues as a remnant of biomass gasification.
