Award for outstanding cooperation: TU Dresden honors Dr. Sebastian Spitzer
The importance of international collaboration for scientific excellence was once again emphasized this year at a ceremony at the TUD Dresden University of Technology (TU Dresden), where Dr. Sebastian Spitzer from the Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology (ILK) was received the prestigious Internationalization Award as the project coordinator of the National Network Korea in the category of "Innovative International Research Cooperation". The TU Dresden honors exceptional partnerships that bring together key research areas on an international scale, significantly contributing to the global networking of science.
The cooperation between the ILK and the universities in Korea produces both forward-looking research results and a joint network consisting mainly of students and scientists from both countries. The National Network Korea encompasses the collaboration of the TU Dresden with South Korean research institutions and universities such as the Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS), Changwon; the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) Jeonbuk, Jeonju, and Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), Jeonju. These partnerships are characterized by deep, long-standing collaborations in the fields of lightweight engineering, development of carbon fibers, additive manufacturing, metal composite structures, material models, as well as calculation and validation methods. Numerous joint publications have been released and events organized within previous initiatives, enhancing both professional and cultural exchange.
A central goal of the network is to further expand mobility between Germany and South Korea. The exchange of students, researchers, and teaching staff is promoted through the network to intensify international engagement from both countries and open new perspectives for joint research projects. In addition to established collaborations, the ILK is actively working to expand further partnerships to broaden the network and ensure long-term cooperation between Germany and South Korea.
We sincerely congratulate Dr Sebastian Spitzer and everyone involved in the National Network Korea on this award and thank him for his passionate and tireless commitment to making this initiative possible and helping it to grow!
