ILK and ILR of TU Dresden invest in new research aircraft Diamond Aircraft DA62 MPP

Diamond Aircraft DA62 MPP research aircraft.
TUD Dresden University of Technology sets another milestone in research into climate-friendly aviation! As part of a rigorous procurement process, the Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology (ILK) and the Institute of Aerospace Engineering (ILR) at the Technical University of Dresden have acquired a Diamond Aircraft DA62 MPP. This state-of-the-art aircraft will serve as a flying laboratory for the development and testing of fossil-free propulsion technologies. Designed to test multiple technologies simultaneously under real flight conditions, it is set to advance innovation in sustainable aviation.
The aircraft is a key component of the FoFlu project and complements existing research initiatives for emission-free aviation. Additionally, it is part of the Luftfahrtregion Ost Deutschland (East Germany Aviation Region), a "Science and Business Platform for Climate-Friendly Propulsion and Their Mission-Critical Integration," a collaboration between leading research institutions such as the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg, the Technical University of Berlin, the Technical University of Dresden, and the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Cottbus and Dresden.

In addition to serving as a test platform for emission-free propulsion systems, the DA62 MPP will also act as a powerful carrier for advanced sensor technologies. This versatile functionality makes it a valuable resource for research partners and companies, especially in the Lausitz region. At the Smart Mobility Lab of TU Dresden in Hoyerswerda, equipped with cutting-edge research infrastructure, an interdisciplinary dialogue between science and industry will be fostered to actively shape the future of aviation. This investment highlights the strong collaboration between research and industry and strengthens the region's innovative power.
We look forward to a successful collaboration and are excited to jointly achieve the first promising results in the development of climate-friendly propulsion technologies!
