Sketching course
The aim of the sketching course is to teach basic skills in freehand drawing. The focus lies on the development of a correct perspective, the construction of controllable, geometrical basic bodies and the learning of fast drawing motor skills. The course is aimed at all students of Mechanical Science and Engineering, and is especially recommended for the fields of engineering and design. The courses address topics from other subjects of the same semester and extend them e. g. through nature studies or objects with free-form geometry.
The sketching course is an optional course, which is recommended for all those interested in the specialisation field of Industrial Design Engineering. Enrolment in one of the offered events via the educational portal OPAL is required for participation. Due to the limited number of places, registrants are expected to participate regularly. More information will be given in the introductory courses regarding first semester courses.
Content and Objectives |
Upon successful completion of the module, students will have the ability to quickly sketch construction and design typical issues for both regular and free-form geometry freehand, for a better self-understanding and for the communication in the product development process. This constructive freehand drawing is an important skill especially in the early conceptual phase, the search for solutions and the creation of variants. |
Teaching and Learning Methods |
8 weekly lectures, independent learning |
Prerequisites for Participation |
Basic competence and experience in freehand drawing |
Application | The module is an elective in the Diplom degree programme Mechanical Engineering. It creates the prerequisites for graphic communication, spatial imagination and visual expression, which are very important, particularly for designers and industrial design engineers. |
Requirements for the Allocation of Credits | Credits will be received upon successfully passing the module examination. The module examination consists of the positive evaluation of the four additional assessments. |
