Development of antifungal and water-repellent protection agents from plants and development and production of a novel natural insulation material
The wetting with resulting mold formation represents a major problem using wood and fiber materials, especially for insulating materials. Chemicals currently applied for preventive treatment originate from chemical synthesis and are usually little or not sustainable or even toxic.
The main goal of the presented project is the development of insulation protection products with fungicidal and water-repellent properties, which are exclusively based on natural plant resources for the first time. For this purpose, in vitro plant cell and tissue cultures (callus respectively suspension cultures and hairy roots) will be used at the Institute of Food and Bioprocess Engineering (TUD-BVT). Natural protective agents with same effects will be produced with the help of shoot and root cultures at project partner Vita 34 AG (Vita 34).
In addition to the selection of suitable preservatives and high productive plant species, the project includes the induction of in vitro cultures and their bioprocess optimization. Furthermore, one main topic concentrates on the process accompanying analytics, including the screening of different in vitro cultures, chosen for production, as well as the analysis of the selected protective products. Another focus is set on the isolation of the products and the development of methods for the application on insulating materials at the project partners TU Dresden, Chair of wood and fiber materials technology (TUD-HFT) and the company Dämmstatt W.E.R.F. GmbH (Dämmstatt).
