How do I apply?

According to the Saxon Rural Physicians Act, the"rural physician quota" is a preliminary quota that is awarded to applicants who would like to work in rural areas and have a great interest in working as a general practitioner. the rural physician quota is introduced in the degree programs Medicine (standard degree program) and Human Medicine (model degree program).

The application and allocation is carried out by or at the State Directorate of Saxony.
Separate selection procedures are carried out for this purpose. All further information, contact persons and legal bases can be found on the website of the State Directorate of Saxony.

The selection interviews for the winter semester 2025/26 will take place between 25.08.2025 and 28.08.2025.

Applications via uni-assist

Non-EU applicants with a foreign university entrance qualification apply via uni-assist by July 15 for the winter semester (applications for the summer semester are not possible).

The following applicant groups do not have to apply via uni-assist but directly via the TU Dresden portal :

• Re-applicants (you already have an admission to study at TU Dresden that is not older than 1 year).
• Degree program changers (you are already enrolled at TU Dresden and want to change your degree program).

Preparatory course

Enrollment in the Studienkolleg (course M) takes place at the applicant's request if direct university admission is not possible ( http://anabin.kmk.org/anabin-datenbank.html ). The entrance test must be passed successfully.

Applications must be submitted via www.uni-assist.de by July 15 for the winter semester and by January 15 for the summer semester.

Please submit a language certificate B1/B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

For admission to the Studienkolleg, the school report should have a maximum overall grade of 1.5. Admission to the Studienkolleg does not constitute a legal entitlement to a place on the desired degree program. After completing the Studienkolleg, a new application for a study place is necessary.

The Studienkolleg Sachsen is located in Leipzig.

Applications for the respective winter semester are made exclusively via www.hochschulstart.de and must be submitted by the deadline specified there.

The Bundeswehr quota secures study places for members of the Bundeswehr as an advance quota of 2.2 %.

If you are seeking a place via the Abitur quota, it is sufficient to apply via the Foundation for University Admissions.

If you receive a study place via the additional aptitude quota (ZEQ), the school grades are not used for the decision, but independent criteria that are communicated by the respective university to the Foundation for University Admissions for the selection procedure. The criteria of the Faculty of Medicine are the result of the TMS and professional training (further information can be found in the selection regulations). It is therefore recommended that you register for and take the TMS. The result of the TMS must be submitted to the Foundation for University Admissions.

The majority of study places are awarded via the AdH. The allocation modalities within the framework of the AdH in the standard degree course in Medicine at the MFD are divided into two sets of criteria. 80% of students who receive a study place via the AdH are allocated a place based on the criteria of Abitur grade, TMS result and service (at least 11 months). The remaining 20 % are awarded a place via the criteria of Abitur grade, TMS result and vocational training. It is therefore recommended that students register for and take part in the TMS. The result of the TMS must be submitted to the Foundation for University Admissions.

In order for your application to be included in the ranking procedure, please note the relevant deadlines and documents to be submitted.

Due to admissions in the winter semester of each year, only the following semesters / clinical semesters are offered:

Winter semester:
a) in the pre-clinical study section, the 1st and 3rd semester,
b) in the clinical study section the 1st, 3rd and 5th clinical semester

Summer semester:
a) in the preclinical study section the 2nd and 4th semester,
b) in the clinical study section the 2nd, 4th and 6th clinical semester

An applicant who has already been enrolled in the same degree program at a university in Germany or the European Union will generally only be enrolled for the next higher subject or clinical semester. Downgrades and upgrades are generally excluded.

When applying, please ensure that you select the correct subject or clinical semester based on your previous course of study. Applicants for the clinical section of the Medicine degree program should ensure that they first select the subject semester and then the clinical semester in the online application ( https://tu-dresden.de/bewerbung)(if you are studying within the standard period of study, this means: 5th subject semester = 1st clinical semester; 6th subject semester = 2nd clinical semester, etc.). The clinical semester is decisive for an application in the clinical study section.

All periods of study in Germany and abroad must be entered in the online application as well as any intermediate examinations already completed, such as the first section of the medical examination (Physikum) under "Examination". Incorrect or incomplete information will result in exclusion from the application process.

Allocation criteria
Admission to the higher semester is based on Section 7 of the Saxon Higher Education Admission Act in conjunction with Section 41 of the Saxon Study Place Allocation Ordinance. If study places are available, the allocation is based on the following applicant groups:

1. upgrades
2. transfer students/ students transferring to another university
3. other applicants (lateral entry).

Within these applicant groups, the ranking list is generally determined according to previous academic achievements (completed certificates of achievement as defined by the licensing regulations). In the event of equal ranking, the place will be determined according to the average grade of the university entrance qualification (Abitur) and, secondarily, by lot. This does not apply to applications for the 1st clinical semester. The higher ranking requires that you have been admitted to the 1st semester of the respective degree program by the Foundation for University Admissions and that you submit a written application (informal) for higher ranking based on your academic achievements. 2. change of place of study/interruption of studies:
Applicants who are changing their place of study or interrupting their studies with academic achievements from a university in a member state of the European Union require recognition of existing study and examination achievements as well as placement in a higher semester of the desired degree program by the state examination office responsible for you.

3. other applicants (lateral entrants):
Subject and degree program changers are considered lateral entrants, as are applicants who have acquired their academic achievements at a university outside a member state of the European Union. They require recognition of existing study and examination achievements as well as placement in a higher semester of the desired degree program by the state examination office responsible for them.

If you are transferring from abroad or from a related degree program (change of specialization) to a higher semester in the degree program Medicine, you must contact the following offices or authorities for the recognition and transfer of credits and examinations as well as for the issuing of a certificate of credit transfer ("Anrechnungsbescheid"):

Applicants with German citizenship
If you are transferring from abroad or from another (related) degree program, the State Examination Office for Academic Health Professions of the applicant's place of birth is responsible.

Applicants with non-German citizenship
Whentransferring from abroad or from another (related) degree program, the
State Examination Office for Medicine, Psychology and Pharmacy in Düsseldorf is responsible.
