FoodMOF: Tailored metal-organic framework for the detection of gas traces in food monitoring
Duration: January 2014 - March 2016
The project aims to develop and establish an analytical system for the detection of food degeneration and/or packaging failure, based on sensors/markers incorporating functional porous material. These functional materials can act directly for optical recognition (e.g. color, luminescence) or indirectly in combination with other analytical techniques (GC, MS).
For the “direct” recognition the adsorber will be applied as received or supported on special substrates, to be implemented as on-package food quality indicators. The “indirect” detection system is based on the accumulation of relevant analytes. In the following the captured trace gases will be desorbed and detected by mass spectrometry (and gas chromatography).
