CORONA-VIRUS
Recent information from the Examination Boards (Status: 22nd March 2020)
The Examination Boards of the School of Science have made the following stipulations for the period of the emergency operations mode (until the resumption of classroom teaching at TU Dresden).
Important: Please use your university email address exclusively for all emails to TU Dresden; all queries, answers or certificates / confirmations and the like will only be sent to this email address!
Requests to the Examination Board
- Requests to the Examination Board must be sent digitally (via email) (as well as any certificates / confirmations or similar).
Final Theses (Bachelor, Master, Diplom)
- Registration:
- Requests for registration for final theses must be sent (via email) (Please use the corresponding form).
- For the period of the emergency mode, all requests will be examined for their feasibility / implementability on a case-by-case basis.
- Where applicable, this may lead to a rejection / postponement of corresponding requests.
- Time extension of deadline:
- Requests for time extension of theses are to be sent digitally (via email) (Please use the corresponding form).
- If at this point the duration of the necessary time extension is still undefined – e.g. due to a plant closure – the corresponding field can be left open.
- Coordination with the supervisor and return of the topic:
- If the successful completion of the thesis depends on access to facilities of TU Dresden (e.g. laboratory), other institutions or the SLUB (not digitally available book and journal holdings, archive) or is based on surveys and interviews that are designed for direct interaction, please discuss with your supervisor to what extent the processing of your research can be adapted to the current situation.
- If an extension of the submission deadline is not appropriate and further processing is not possible due to these current conditions (this may also apply to topic processing abroad), the topic can be returned without affecting the retries and even if the deadline for return has been exceeded and a new topic for the final thesis can be requested. For this purpose, an informal request by email together with a statement by the first examiner (the supervisor) must be submitted to the Examinations Office.
- Submission of the final theses:
- The submission is made digitally (via email) as a PDF file to the supervising higher education lecturer and the second reviewer (Examination Office must be set in "Cc").
- Deadlines have to be observed, the print version of the thesis (including the relevant documents according to the examination regulations) has to be submitted subsequently as soon as the Examination Offices will have opened again.
- Please do not forget the signed and scanned statement of authorship when sending your thesis.
- Colloquium / Defence
- After submission of the final thesis and positive evaluation by the examiners, the colloquium/defence can take place immediately, i.e. even after submission as a PDF file even without submitting the print version (see above).
- Colloquia/defences can take place virtually (remotely) in a suitable form if both the student and the examiner agree.
- Otherwise they are to be postponed until normal teaching resumes. The Chair will make a decision independently.
- The minutes of the colloquium/defence should document the chosen technical form and record any technical problems that may occur.
Deadlines for (de)registration as well as withdrawals from examinations
- Deadlines for (de)registration for examinations (graded academic work):
- The registration and deregistration of examinations (graded pieces of work) that accompany the studies will initially take place normally. This can be done remotely via the relevant portals (selma, HISQIS)
- A decision on final semester examination performances will only be made if the case arises.
- Information on dates and deadlines can be found on the websites of the Examination Offices or on the selma page of the Schools
- Withdrawals for exams (grade academic work):
- Withdrawals due to illness are possible by email to the Examination Office.
- Please use the corresponding forms if necessary.
- The original document must be sent to the Examination Office by post.
Further Information
We ask for your kind understanding that during TU Dresden’s emergency operations mode it may not be possible to process all requests in a timely manner. In particular, the preparation / handing over / sending of certificate documents is not possible until further notice. As soon as regular operations can be resumed, your requests will be processed as quickly as possible.
