Welcome!
The Faculty of Mathematics, with its 27 professors, is one of the largest mathematical departments in Germany.
It is characterised by a broad research spectrum with several ERC grants, DFG projects and participations in Clusters of Excellence, Collaborative Research Centres and Graduate Schools. It is thus central to various Research Priority Areas of TU Dresden and a connecting link between numerous interdisciplinary projects.
Two research foci have developed over the past few years in the Faculty of Mathematics:
(1) Partial differential equation and their applications, and
(2) Discrete structures and optimisation.
Further focal points can be found in the area of Mathematics in Business and Economics and didactics. In addition to various research projects, these areas are also represented in the teaching, at the Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral level, which provides our graduates with a broad and up-to-date mathematical education, and guarantees an attractive workplace.
In the study programme Bachelor of Mathematics, we offer a broad spectrum of basic lectures. These create the mathematical prerequisites for all subsequent Master study programmes. The specialisation courses in the third year of studies ideally prepare you for the Master study programmes Mathematics, Technomathematics as well as Mathematics in Business and Economics. The Faculty of Mathematics is also involved in the international ECMI study programme, which also enables studies at various partner universities. Further foci are the training of future teachers for grammar, vocational and intermediate schools and the mathematics education of students in the natural, engineering, economic, as well as social and computer sciences.
