Summary:
Emerging Printed Electronics Research Infrastructure (EMERGE) aims to establish a strong community, involving academies, RTO, Industry, and SMEs addressing the challenges of the flexible large-area printed electronics and photonics (FLAPEP) value chain, going from materials formulation to design and architecture of processes, devices, and systems,
backup by characterization, test modeling, and simulation tools.
EMERGE will provide access for users working with materials such as paper, textiles, or biocompatible polymers to small-footprint FLAPEP technologies and enable the integration of these technologies in their products. This enables the development
of emerging devices for multipurpose applications by using industrially compatible hybrid printing processes (roll-to-roll, inkjet, nanoimprinting, aerosol jet printing, functional 3D printing, etc.) accompanied by in-line inspection tools and automatic systems for high throughput inks determination, both driven by a novel Knowledge repository powered by Artificial Intelligence methods. A Major goal is the integration of novel/innovative devices [hybrid thin film transistors, printed electronics & circuitry, (bio-)sensors, in-vitro diagnostic platforms, photovoltaics, nanogenerators, and energy storage media] on conformable, flexible substrates with free-of-form surfaces by exploiting eco-sustainable materials and processes for innovative products development.
EMERGE will focus intensively on networking among partners, and stakeholders from industry and towards worldwide FLAPEP-related initiatives. This involves supporting starting communities, advocacy and dissemination, sharing data and information management, and exploitation planned for all stakeholders to ensure a long-lasting, sustainable community. This will enhance European competitiveness in the mid-and long term, and ensure sustainability in line with the Green Deal. All value chains are environment-friendly allowing so a circular economy for all, including electronics.
