10 years of the Higgs discovery on July 4th with public evening lectures and exhibition "Big Bang on the road"
10 years of the Higgs discovery
Nothing at all without Higgs
In July 2012, the experimental detection of the Higgs boson, an elementary particle from the Standard Model of particle physics, was achieved at the CERN accelerator center. Physicists from the TU Dresden were also involved in the discovery. The Institute for Nuclear and Particle Physics (IKTP) of the TU Dresden invites all interested parties on July 4, 2022 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the discovery with lectures on theory, discovery and future of research and to come into exchange with the researchers. From 17:00 to 20:00 every hour a new public lecture will start in the Klemperer Hall of the Central Library of the SLUB in Dresden, the last one starting at 8 p.m. will be held in English.
On the lawn in front of the Institute for Nuclear and Particle Physics (Zellescher Weg 19), there will also be the mobile exhibition module "Big Bang On the Move" to explore between 10:00-20:00. With games and interactive information, especially a walk through the history of the universe, the module is a perfect introduction to the world of particle physics and shows why it and many other forms of basic research are so important for our society.
School classes are invited to discover how our universe came to be and where it is headed. Groups please register at
