Seminar: Unfolding in High Energy Physics
Redner
Katharina Bierwagen (Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz)
Measured distributions in particle physics are influenced by resolution e ffects, non linearities and the acceptance of the detector. Unfolding describes the transition from the measured distributions to the underlying truth distribution. Therefore, unfolded results have the advantage that they are detector independent and can be directly compared to theory predictions or results from other experiments.
An introduction to the concept of unfolding will be given and the most common techniques that are currently used in particle physics experiments are presented.
