Kai Zuber (TU-Dresden): The discovery of CNO neutrinos
Zellescher Weg 19
01069 Dresden
Abstract: For more than a century people discuss the energy of stars and especially the sun. Around 80 years ago Bethe and von Weizsäcker proposed two reactions how to produce energy in stars by the transmutation from hydrogen into helium. One way as more like a network of reactions and one was a catalytic reaction. In both reactions neutrinos are emitted. While the first one is well known with neutrino detections, the catalytic process has never been observed in neutrinos. This processs has finally been detetected by the Borexino experiment. The seminar is on the history of solar neutrinos and their detections. The problems and difficulties for such experiments are presented. Finally the discovery of the CNO neutrinos by Borexino will be presented.
