Noble liquid calorimeters have been widely used in collider experiments for over 40 years. This seminar will go back to the reasons for their success, taking the ATLAS liquid argon calorimeters as main example. The challenges of their readout electronics upgrades for the High luminosity LHC will be shown.
Given its numerous strengths, the noble liquid technology is an appealing candidate for a detector at a future e+e- collider. A recently proposed novel detector concept will be discussed, along with progress on the necessary R&D items and on its expected
performance.
