Early or late bird? I think of myself more as a stressed afternoon duck. My internal clock is two minutes slow. Either 100% procrastination or 16-hour shift without a coffee break. To keep the acute stress phase as short as possible, I work out structures in advance and stick to a tight schedule. That way, there's still a buffer for creative chaos and I still manage to finish before the deadline. At the end of each writing project, I reward myself with a little downtime.
