First ACC Forum "From Change to Transformation”
Dagmar Möbius
In October 2023, the 1st ACC Forum will take place in Ostritz. The presidency of the Academic Coordination Center (ACC) of the Euroregion Neisse is held by the International Institute Zittau. KONTAKT spoke with Professor Remmer Sassen and Lisa Junge, who are organizing the international event which will be held in English.
How did the idea for the 1st ACC Forum originate?
Prof. Remmer Sassen: The basic idea has been around for a while: The international and scientific cooperation between the universities in the German-Polish-Czech border triangle should be promoted. This cooperation hasn't been getting a lot of attention as of late. At present, IHI is at the helm of the ACC. At first, we thought of a kind of summer school with joint courses and a placement exchange. During the preliminary discussions, I had the feeling that we need to make this bigger.
Now it has turned into a week-long forum ...
Prof. Remmer Sassen: In fact, what has come out of it are four fall schools and one conference. Students are invited to attend the fall schools from October 16-18, 2023. They are also expected to attend the upcoming conference on October 19 and 20, 2023. The thematic focus of the entire program is: ”From change to transformation“. It includes a participatory approach for all participating universities. We could refer to it as a "module pool across borders".
What expectations do you associate with the event and how many participants do you expect?
Lisa Junge: First and foremost, we want to create visibility in the region. The Academic Coordination Center (ACC) of the Euroregion Neisse would like to enhance cooperation not only between universities, but also with other partners. Therefore, we have also invited companies. We want to initiate cross-border, interdisciplinary research, teaching and transfer projects. Students will learn how the academic world works at the fall schools. The results of their courses will be presented in posters. A total of 90 students have registered for the fall schools. There will also be ten lecturers. We expect around 150 participants to attend the academic conference at the International Meeting Center S. Marienthal in Ostritz.
Which conference topics have already been decided?
Prof. Remmer Sassen: We have planned eight main topics: Biodiversity, sustainability, technological and cultural changes, but also about the structural change of the working world and Big Data. We are very pleased that we have been able to attract international speakers from the USA, Italy, Great Britain and Ukraine, and many more. We will not be charging any fees for attending the conference.
